My name is Katie Brown and I am a graduate student working towards my Master of Arts in Education degree. I currently teach Special Education to students with moderate needs. As an avid reader, I work to create younger passionate readers.
This blog will explore mentorship and whether or not putting a struggling reader in the role of mentor for a younger struggling reader will increase engagement and reading skills in the older student. I will read articles and determine what has been said on the topic up to this point. Ideally, this, combined with research that I do in my placement, will help me develop a mentorship model that can be used by different schools to help increase reading engagement among struggling readers.
